USCIS application procedures: U.S. Citizenship Test

U.S. Citizenship Test

In order to become a naturalized citizen of the United States, you will have to pass the Citizenship Test, or the Naturalization Test. The purpose of the Citizenship Test is to make sure that new U.S. citizens have some basic knowledge about the United States and its history. New citizens should also have a basic understanding of the principles of the United States’ government form and the U.S. Constitution. Having this basic information is required for new citizens to be well functioning and contributing members of the American society. A new Citizenship Test was launched by the U.S. Government in 2008. All new U.S. Citizenship applicants now have to take the new and redesigned Citizenship Test. The test is made up by a civics part and an English part. Both parts are divided into three sections each. To Pass the Civics test you must have some basic knowledge about the U.S. government, Integrated Civics, and American History. To pass the English portion of the Citizenship Test you must demonstrate that you have basic skills in reading, writing and speaking English.
