Certificate of Citizenship
A Certificate of Citizenship is a document that proves that an individual is a citizen of the United States. It is issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Cervices to – children of U.S. citizens who are born abroad, or to individuals who acquired their U.S. citizenship while living in the U.S., for example as their parents became naturalized U.S. citizens. If a citizen who has lost a Certificate of Citizenship that has already been issued, or if the certificate has been damaged or destroyed, the citizen can apply with the USCIS for a replacement certificate. The same is true if the citizen has changed names, for example by marriage, since the issuance of the certificate. Note that only individuals who are already citizens of the United States can apply for a Certificate of Citizenship. However, naturalized citizens should apply for a Certificate of Naturalization. The process is must like applying for a Certificate of Citizenship but the document and the requirements for eligibility are different.
