When an individual is applying for an immigrant visa or an alien registration he/she must file one Form DS-230 for each member of the family that is planning to immigrate together with the principal applicant. It is possible to fill in the form on a computer in Adobe Reader. It takes about one hour to complete the application form. Parts of the forms should be filled out with the assistance of a consular office at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where the intended immigrant applies for the immigrant visa.
