USCIS Immigration Information

On March 1st, 2003 the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) became the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The USCIS is a U.S. government agency part of the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The USCIS was establish to protect the United States against terrorist attacks. The general and correct consensus was that the INS was not doing a very good job of screening its applicants. The USCIS handles the all services and benefits, including citizenship, naturalization, applications for permanent residence (Green Cards), non-immigrant visa applications, asylum and refugee services. Immigration enforcement functions are now handled by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
